Woodins for Math 16A

Woodin for math 16A
ideas?

eww bad bad bad. you missed out on a GREAT 16A prof this semester though

really woodins is no good?

let's just say lots of people didn't pass.

try taking it in the fall? i specifically avoided woodins in the spring so i could take my chances with any prof in the fall.

Follow the advice of the people above me and try to avoid Woodin. Even for the few lectures that I attended (didn't need to be retaught stuff I learned in high school), his teaching style is very dry and doesn't seem too helpful for someone who is taking Math 16A because of math skills not ready for Math 1A or even Math 16B. BTW, i took Woodin last Spring 2008 and while I did fine in the class, I know a lot of other people did not and had to retake the course for a better grade.

sigh.......i really need to take a math next semester though..to keep up
the Math 1A class has one teacher...i think its statincova ( somethin like that)...
is she better? math 1A-hard class, better teacher or math16A-easier class, bad teacher?

stankova is hecka goood but then 1A will be much harder. she taught 16A last fall though lol

my luck..lol....do u think she is good enough for me to take 1A even though i never did calc before?? :D
should i try to enroll for both classes and see after the first couple lectures?

If you're adamant about taking math next semester and you're deciding between the two, I would take Math 16A with Woodin. Especially since you never took calculus before, it will be very difficult to do well in Math 1A, even with a good teacher.

thats what everyone is saying...the tell me it is really hard. dont people normally take a math class thier first year at Cal though? so would i fall behind

im taking the math 16 series my second year right now. im not behind :]

whats ur major? mcB?

public health.

do u mind if i ask what you took your first semester at Cal?
fyi i am a spring admit---i dont know if this matters

To IAMABEAR:

I don't think it really matters whether you take math during your first year or second year. It just seems to me that people like to take math earlier than later because it is typically a good class to start college with. Especially since it is something that you have taken as recently as your last year of high school, math is a good bridging course to take. That is why sometimes people do other prerequisites later because they haven't taken a course on that subject before.

It doesn't really matter when you take it, just as long as it doesn't interfere with registering for classes.

20% people fail in woodin... according to pickaprof.. -.- does anyone know whether if there's a midterm before the drop deadline?

To 88888888, I'm pretty sure there was one midterm before the drop deadline. If not, it was really close to it (a week before or after it).

hopefully it's before. just wanna see how ill do.

hew is good teacher
