One of the videos was disturbing. Why were policemen pointing taser guns at students filling the arch with snow last year?

ok, reply #1 susan :)

i wouldn't know about the golf course, as i've never been over there nor do i play golf. that'd be something for him to ask the coach and/or players for the team here :) sorry!

ok...arch filling "scandel" of 2007..

the reason why you see policemen there with dogs and tasers is because our president was new that year. he called security freaking out, they had new people in security that got all up in arms, and the chain goes on, all because they thought we were "rioting" when we were really filling the arch (hence why a number of videos you'll find on youtube from that night with the word riot somewhere in the title/description...since so many news sources did such), especially since Kauke Hall was then recently renovated that they thought we were going to do something to damage the place.

security called out back-up from the state highway patrol, wooster city PD, and apple creek PD, which was entirely unnecessary if they would've gone over and calmly talked to the kids that were doing it to find out what was going on. 3 students got arrested but no charges were pressed. the police only had their tasers and the dog out because they thought the students were going to do something stupid. it was all a big mess of misunderstanding really. i guess we made the news as far away as the Washington Post and such as i mentioned above ^^

OH! and we did fill the arch last night! :D lotta fun, i'll gather pictures from my friends and what i took on my phone, upload to photobucket, and post the link here when it's ready :DD

The new president came in the fall of 2007. The former pres was in Florida at a alumni event the day the arch was filled. The local police were called by security as I remember. Seems to have been a misunderstanding as was reported, but it did not involve the administration of the college.

So did you get school off today? I see you guys have been getting a lot of snow.

well sorry, rhsmom. i only wrote what i read/experienced and was told. my apologies.

No problem. I just didn't want others to think it was the president who was at fault. Hope you had fun filling the arch!

i've been thinking lately, and i think that i need to take a break from posting on here for while, as i've got work to do, and there are others on here that must know more and better than me. i'll check in periodically.

good luck to everyone.

lamiller, please do come back to post. I love reading your informative posts, and it is great to learn what you and others are doing on campus. Please do continue to post. I do understand the times that you can't because you have too much on your plate. I am very appreciative of the time that you dedicate to telling us about Wooster. I can tell that you are happy there!

hey everyone :)

in case you haven't noticed the past couple days, i'm offically back here. i had a lot going on with being horribly sick, mucho mucho mucho huge amounts of school work to worry about/get done, and some other personal reasons.

but, i'm back now. there's also now another COW student, a freshman as well, and his SN is mkodner. i'm not sure how active he'll be on here, but there will be at least me on here fairly often :)

i'm going to TRY and pick-up where i left off, as a good couple of exciting Wooster events have occurred since i last posted (in January..wow!), mainly being I.S. Monday! i've got a number of pictures for different things. once i look around at the rules again about pictures, i'll either post a couple here, or make a photo album on Photobucket and post the link, or something. i'm not sure, so...yeah. let me figure that out first lol...

also, if anyone will be visiting campus in the near future, let me know by PM or email (lmiller12@wooster.edu) a date and time, and what your tour plans are. maybe we can work out something after you're done, such as eating lunch together, sit in on one of my classes, etc.

see you all soon, and as always, good luck to the perspective students!

-Laura Miller '12

^^^Well, I am not "Ricky", but welcome back and thanks for being here and posting Laura!

Welcome back from me, too! When my daughter was a freshman at Woo, she also became very sick. It began late in fall term and dragged out into early spring. :(

ugh, i was SO miserable too! i had a mix of walking pneumonia (sp?) and acute sinitis. it knocked out almost 75-85% of my hearing (which drove me up the wall like you have no idea…i already have a little trouble as it is, since i was born with a mild loss…anyways, i had to play my studio recital like that, and practically right up against in the bow of the piano instead of out a little like normal. i went through surgery (for the Nth time) where my ear doctor put in these little mini tubes called Hubbards, drained what was in my ears, and made a couple of cuts so my ear was like a pop-can (man did i get the jokes from family lol)

it also had a detrimental effect on my grades, especially my FYS, which i was carrying a B, and final grade of C- since i was out so much and couldn’t really make-up what i missed in time before winter break.

so PLEASE, do have your kids (and yourselves as well!) get your Flu Shot every year. even though i did get sick, i was lucky it wasn’t worse because of having that vaccine. usually here on campus they have a special for students of $15 where it’s normally 30-45+ elsewhere. i believe the Health Center also started carrying the Flu Mist (nasal mist version of the same vaccine) at the very end of the season at $5 to test the waters. i’ve now had both versions. sometimes with the nasal mist you get a different “taste” in the back of your throat as it comes down (with me i got cookie dough, occassionally people say that, vanilla, etc) lol

My daughter also had “walking pneumonia.” It took months for her to feel 100% again, so I hope you’re more fortunate than she was.

Please can anyone give me any information about Drama/Theatre Arts at Wooster? What is the department like?

Hi, I’m a high school senior who has been admitted to Wooster. Wooster is very high on my list- I have attended receptions, kept in touch with Lindsay Duerr (my admissions counselor) and been offered a large scholarship to attend. I am seriously considering it. I was wondering if (and I don’t want to be too forward here) if there was some way I could get in touch with you to talk about the school. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. If you do, please email me through the link. Thank you!

alanas–I’m the mother of a 2010 Wooster graduate. I’d love to talk to you about the school, and I bet she would be too. Her four years at Wooster were the best years of her life. PM me if you’d like to get in touch. Mary

geez, the people at this school seem so nice!
I’d love to talk!
Can you email me through the link?

I’m the parent of a Wooster sophomore (and a high school senior who’s deciding next week where to go next year). He seems very happy at Wooster and is working quite hard (as he tries to decide on college major direction). As parents, we’re really happy with the education and experience he seems to be having there.

I suspect that he’d be happy to converse about his first 1 1/2 years there. PM me if you’d like me to get in touch with him and talk about specific student-oriented experiences.

Hi alanas - congrats on your acceptance and scholarship! I also am a parent of a Wooster sophomore (Neuroscience Pre-Med) who was in your shoes just two years ago (boy time flies). I guess she can give your perspective as a science major at an LAC, participating in sports on campus, and the difference between same-sex and co-ed dorms, among other things, so if you need info on those let me know.
