Wooster Class of 2011

Anyone applying to this school or have been accepted?
=]

I WISH my daughter was applying to Wooster. Her older sister is a freshman at Wooster, and it's been the best possible place for her--very challenging academics, in a beautiful, serene, and nurturing environment. And with lots of great extracurriculars. I only hope that daughter #2 finds a college she feels the same way about.

My daughter was just accepted ED to Wooster. Lots of celebrating at our house last night.

Congratulations! I hope your daughter will be as blissfully happy at Wooster as mine is. We just can't say enough about this wonderful, wonderful school!

She is a bagpiper and can't imagine a better place to spend 4 years.

When we were up there visiting, we ate in Kitteridge Hall and were serenaded by a small group of bagpipers (3 or 4.). It was loud and great fun, but as I recall, the musicians were all boys. Wooster must have been thrilled when your daughter's application came in!

Even though we live in Florida every time she puts on her Wooster sweatshirt someone comes up to her and tells her what a great school it is. Alumni seem to be lurking around every corner.

Yes, it really is an amazing school. We live five hours from Wooster--far enough that can't make pests of ourselves by over-visiting our daughter. The cold northern Ohio winters will be a big change for a Floridian, but she'll do fine. ... So far, we don't have Wooster sweatshirts, but by golly we have about everything else--T-shirts, caps, keychains, coffee mugs, bumper stickers, and a poster.

awsome =]
i'm really into COW's Inde. Study--ranked #2 (right behind Princeton)
now if my college counselor would send in my transcripts...

o jw, anyone know what's the average act score.
thanks

The Princeton Review says COW's average ACT is 26.

My son is applying for admission. We visited in October, and I was impressed with the campus and facilities. And our tour guide - she said she was accepted at Yale and Wooster. Wooster won. :)

My daughter was also accepted at several much more selective schools, but chose Wooster.

what's life like on the weekends?

That would depend on the student. My daughter seems constantly busy between studying, playing soccer (in the fall), hanging with friends, attending sporting events, parties, and art exhibits, going to hear speakers, out to dinner, etc., etc. Most of her life is on campus, which suits her just fine. (My younger daughter--a senior in high school--would not like the Wooster environment as well.) Wooster is a small town which meets basic needs, but doesn't offer alot in terms of glamor or adventure. If a student really more off-campus action, Wooster wouldn't be the best fit.

If a student really "wants" more off-camp action, Wooster wouldn't be the best fit. Sorry, left out a word.

My son is a junior at Wooster. He and his friends go to Cleveland sometimes for concerts. There are also occasional Ohio things to do, like the state fair. I think most of his regular weekend night action is going to "the Underground," which is Woo's coffee shop/music venue. There's another one in town, too -- Common Grounds, I think it's called.

We live in Akron 30 miles away which is a metro area of 500,000. My D1 is a jr in hs looking at Wooster.

There is lots to do in Akron from clubs to classical music. Cleveland is about 50 miles from Wooster. Around Wooster and particularly south is the largest Amish setting in the world which has a lot of things. Eastern Ohio has one of the best outdoor recreation settings around. Most people don't realize this.

i'm sure i can survive COW haha
how diverse is COW?

Not as diverse as I'd like it to be, but that's a problem with a lot of the smaller liberal arts colleges. I think there were only about 40 internationals this past fall in the entering class of 500-some students. American students came from 38 or 39 states. Don't know the percentages for minorities, but I recall thinking they could be higher. ...

40 does seem low.
what about the language residences/houses that i've heard little about?
