Please help! I have been accepted to both schools and have received equal scholarships to both. Which school has a better reputation? Name recognition? Study abroad opportunities? etc....Any opinions about these 2 schools would be greatly appreciated!

I would like to study languages and anthropology.

Virtually no one outside of Ohio or Wisconsin (and CC) will know anything about either. If you are worried about name recognition then you probably should not even consider a LAC.

Both have outstanding reputations in the academic arena and send quite a few students to grad school.

I can’t imagine that there is much difference in the study abroad options as every school offers them. Look at their websites.

Go to the one you like best.

lol I know. When everyone asks me where I’m going, I say “Beloit” and they’re like “oh.”

Ironically Beloit is better known outside the midwest. I grew up on the east coast, as did my H and we knew many people who went there. Lots of west coasters too. We live in the midwest and people don’t seem to know about Grinnell or Carleton either! I know people in the Chicago area that think U of C is a state school!! Don’t judge regional opinion on whether or not a school is right for you. We never visited Wooster, I heard good things about it. Choosing a college is a huge decision and one that will impact your future but keep in mind nothing is 100% perfect, there will be pros and cons wherever you go! Good luck, I know this has been a tough decision process for you but it is all to your credit that you are so engaged - this bodes well for you wherever you go. It seems like you will make the best of the opportunities available whichever college you choose.

Thanks! I just would feel like I’m rushing if I put a deposit down now…but the sooner the better because then I get a better chance of getting the dorm I want lol.

Do they both have the languages you’re interested in? Have you looked at the actual class schedules to see if there are any differences in the number and type of classes offered? Are there differences in the faculty specialties in the departments you’re interested in? If nothing else, do you like the school colors better in one place than the other ;-)

^ haha colors. Both have Spanish and French, Beloit offers Arabic in the summer though, and Beloit offers WAY more anthro classes (15 to 49). Wooster’s program is combined with Soc which is why.

That’s why I’m leaning more toward Beloit.

If you wanna study anthro, Beloit is the obvious choice. I’d go there anyways, though I haven’t been to Wooster, I can tell you that Beloit has a nice campus and I liked the feel of the town. It’s also closer to Chicago!

I’ve known about both for thirty years, and I’m from New England. Beloit, especially, is not an unknown school. At least from my days it has a hippy, alternative reputation. Have you visited?

Yes. I visited during their break however, but our tour guide was an int’l student. She seemed very nice.

If anthro is your intended major, Beloit is the clear choice.

It’s done. I paid my deposit at Beloit.
