I am thinking of choosing Clark as a match school (I'm a junior), so I'm doing my research. For those of you who have looked into the school, how's the surrounding area? I don't have a car and I probably won't even have a license. Is Worcester one of those places where you need your own transportation to have a good time? Would it be a pain to live there without a car? I like that it has a lot of on-campus stuff to do (so it's said), but I want to explore the college town, as well.

I didn’t have a car the entire four years I have been at Clark, and it’s been fine. Caveat: I do have friends who have cars, but I’m sure you’ll make friends who do.

You can have fun at Clark without a car because of the sheer number of on-campus programs going on. There are also plenty of other options for off-campus transportation:

There is a new bike share program going on.

Escort: anytime after 4pm you can call Escort and they’ll take you anywhere within an X mile radius (can’t remember the mile). This will take you to the bank, CVS, grocery store, restaurants, etc.

Woo Bus: its a bus that goes to the nearby colleges and downtown spots on the weekends.

Student Council Van: takes you to Blackstone Valley Shoppes (movie theater, shops, food) and the local mall on the weekends.

Consortium shuttle: goes to all the local colleges, public library, art museum, etc on the weekday.

So, plenty of options there! Take a look at the Clark website, they’ve revamped with some more info about exploring the Worcester community.

Clark is not located in the best part of the city.

Well…yes, it is located in Main South. But I won’t dismiss it because of that, and neither would I keep myself in a little bubble. Common sense and use of Clark’s resources has kept me pretty safe for four years.
