I just finished two of my Stanford supplement essays (Intellectual, roommate) and noticed the word count. It says ' up to 250 words.' Is this strictly enforced? I sort of just wrote and made sure I didn't pass the 1800 character count.

I have 334 words on one essay and 306 on the second.
What do you think?

Thanks for your help.

ps. I also wouldn't mind having someone read them?

I think they would be a bit forgiving on the 250 but not that much–> anything over 300 words especially, just think of how many they are reading.

I think you could get away with 255, 260ish, but 334 is way too much. If you’re an incredible, unbelievable applicant then I don’t think they’d literally throw your app in the trash but I would NOT want to put myself at any potential disadvantage for a school like Stanford who has thousands of amazing applicants who did stick to the limit.
