<p>if the word limit in essay is 1000~1500.
does it mean 1000 words that don't include is, in, the,a ....etc.</p>

<p>or do i just do word count from the microsoft word. and is that the correct number?</p>

<p>The Word Count function gives the corrent number (includes every word).</p>

<p>The English language considers words such as a, an, the, is, in, etc. to be actual words and so do colleges when they set their word limits.</p>

<p>the UC's have a word counter in the online essay....it even counts a contraction as TWO words. :D</p>
