Word Limits/Character Limits in Common App

<p>So the common app says the short answer should be 150 words or less and the essay 250-500 words. </p>

<p>But some people on this board have mentioned a character limit. Some people say its 750 characters for the short responses, others 1000 characters. Which is right? Does this character count include both characters and spaces? What is the character limit for the longer essay? </p>

<p>PS Why can't I find anything about this character limit in the instructions?!!</p>

<p>So far I haven’t seen any character limit for the large essay. For the short response it has to be under 750 total characters (spaces, letters, commas, you name it) or the Common App will not let you move on.</p>

<p>I applied last year through the CommonApp and for the short answer, I always tried to be under 350 characters. It shouldn’t be too long.</p>
