Word requirements for the Common App

<p>How flexible are they? I've been told by some people that they went hundreds of words over the suggested limit and were still accepted-- others stick to the absolute letter.
I'm writing my essay about an extracurricular for the common app, and the suggested word count is 150 words.
I have 220. 70 words over. Is that a huge problem?</p>

<p>AS long as everything is necessary (i.e. you weren't redundant or anything and it flows nicely) then I don't see why that would not be acceptable. Something excessive like 500 words on the other hand, would probably pose a problem.</p>
