Work Experience on Common App

Does Work Experience mean that you did something and got paid? Or does something like voluntarily tutoring children in an elementary school count as work experience too?

i think tutoring would just be considered an EC. It's volunteer work right?

tutoring is better than a job, because you are demonstrating your understanding of academic knowledge and ability to help others. I wish I tutored...the money is great at CVS (except it is all going to my French trip) but the hours are killing me and it isn't as interesting as tutoring.

Not work experience, that is an EC.

Yeah, but what if you owned a bonafide tutoring business....(I have a city tax license, DBA for my business, but no EIN from the IRS or paper from the State Tax equalization board because I have no employees and am not selling anything or running a business that requires a license.)

Is that work experience or an EC?
