Could someone please explain to me how to do work study at BU? Do you have to take out an outside loan and pay that off with your earnings, or do you just promise monthly payments to the school? And where can I go online to find employment offers? Also, I only got $2000 in work study for my first semester and none for the second. Does the leftover money carry over into the next semester if I don’t earn the entire amount in the first?

Hey I got the same thing as you for work study for fall 2012. At the open house I talked to a financial aid rep. They said you can spread out the work and do some both in the first and second semester. The money is given to you as a check and you can do with it what you want, which I would think is to pay off the cost of the school

So basically they just trust that you’ll eventually get them the money? I can’t believe they don’t make you pay the entire cost at the very beginning of the year, and in order to cover everything immediately I’d have to ask for outside loans. I hope it’s clear what I’m confused about…

Uh no. You will need to pay your tuition, room and board bill to BU by the specified deadlines or have your parents make alternate arrangements to pay. Work study money is essentially spending money for you to use during the year.
