Is work study considered a form of financial aid? Meaning, if it wasn't listed on my fin. aid offer, I'm not allowed to do it????? If so, that sucks a whole lot.

Yellowdog99…my daughter got the work study option on her financial aid offer. I spoke to Fin. Aid this past weekend and was told that basically they give her leads to jobs on campus (of which she still has to interview for) and if approved, she can make no more than the alloted amount that is stipulated on the financial aid offering. Each job has different pay rates so you are not guaranteed to get the full work study award…you just can’t go higher than that in wages. (unless youy appeal and request it from Financial aid.

Additionally, while they use it as a mechanism to make your financial aid offer that much more appealing, bottom line is you can use the money earned for anything…tuition, beer…you name it…lol. It is basically a promise that they wil find you a job on campus with the idea that your earnmings can possibly be used for helping out in tuition.

If you were to find your own job, it would be the same thing. Hope this helps.

…and further, you don’t have to have work-study to get a job on campus. (Some may require it, but there are other opportunities that don’t).

Thanks to both of you. You guys are both extremely helpful on these forums :)
