Hoping to get some information on Work Study at NU. My S has qualified and would appreciate some insight/recommendations. I know they will address this during WW but should he start to apply now?

I have had 2 kids do work study at NU. You can have your son go over his resume now, and yes, he could email it to various listed openings, or he can wait and do it later. One of my kids stayed in their original job - and one kid bounced around and wound up working for a Prof that listed them as one of the authors on a paper. As a freshman, I don’t think it’s any big deal - and as they make contacts, and have favorite teachers, they can switch positions, although I am not sure if rules prohibit mid-semester or mid-year changes. Good luck - and Go Cats!

I’d suggest something simple freshman year, The more stressful the job, the more it’s just going to butt into other things. I don’t think applying now is the best idea, because, to me, it’s better to be able to talk to the people at the job fair and see what some of the people do. You don’t really want to jump around too much, I’d suggest sticking with the same job for at least the quarter, if not longer, more so for his resume than anything else. Having jumped around more than once every quarter looks like you’re indecisive.

Thank you both. It is always good to hear some experienced perspective.
