Work study?

I have to do work study as part of my finaid package. Does anyone know anything about the interview process? Also...do I just get a portion of what I'm supposed to make and the rest goes towards tuition or what? I'm so confused!

My understanding is that at UNC you are paid directly and none of the money goes into the cashiers office....you can use for expenses or as needed......
don't know about the interview process.

The maximum amount you're allowed to make is how much they give you in your FA package. If the work study is for tuition, then all of your work study money goes towards tuition

Does anyone have first hand experience with work study? Is it that hard to reach the FA amount? (Mine is 1$250/semester)

My D's grandparents decided she should not work during the first semester to help her have a smooth transition to college, and will over that portion of her financial aid. She will need to work second semester.... Does anyone know if all the work-study jobs will be taken second semester if she doesn't take one the first semester?

wait...so i work 10+ hours a week but don't get to keep any money? what will i use for spending money? if this is the case, i would need to get another job...

If I remember correctly, this was discussed during a financial aid workshop I attended back in April at Carolina and the money you receive for work study is your money to keep. I'll dig around in my handbook and the website to see if I can pull up a link.

M&NMom is right. It is deposited directly into your bank account. However, if your work study money is for tuition and you end up using it for other expenses, your parents will end up having to pay it.

I had work study in my financial aid package to raise $1500.But recently I got a private scholarship worth $4000/semester. Do I still have to be in that program?
I still want to be in work study program, because money is something u always need!

I am in the same situation LadyTar. I received about 10,000 in financial aid, with 3,000 for work study and the rest of it being scholarships. I also received a 6,000 scholarship from a private source, and so if I were to get all the money I would be going there for free. I think that they use the outside scholarship towards any loans first and then they put it towards work study. That's what I understood when I talked to a rep at UNC

U're right fobby. Thats what they do. I received $9000 as outside scholarship. I reported Carolina of these private scholarship. And yesterday when I logged on to my unc, I saw all my scholarships from UNC, work study and some grants have been replaced by those scholarships. Now I'm going there for free, its like a full scholarship of $15,796 for this year.
Does that mean I'm no longer in the Work Study Program?
And do we get all those money deposited in our accounts?Or we have to seek permission from the cashier's office, before we can spend them?
