Working while in school

A little bit of background I am from a lower middle class family so we do not have much money to begin with. I started off at a community college and transfered out to an out of state university because they have a really good program for my major. I am in my second semester at this school and I am stressed beyond belief. My family offered to help fund me because they didn’t want me working because they wanted all my time focused on school work. Well my family is running out of money to be able to send me so we had to take out a loan to pay off this semester. I already have a job but it is a summer job that allows me to pay for my own expenses during the summer and a little into the fall but ends in time for school. What I am here to ask is that I have begun contemplating whether I should start working while I am in school? I have had friends that have balanced 2 to 3 jobs while in school full time!! How do you do it? i have tried hard to balance school and just one job but find it so difficult any adivce? what are the best types of jobs to get? I feel like this is too much for my family to take on. I feel like such a free loader and though they insist on me not worrying about money issues but my school work. I find that is pretty hard to do whenI know how much my expenses are… and no I don’t party or spend money on meaningless things I am pretty responsible with what they send me because I am not the one working hard for it!

I find that the best types of jobs are daycare and on campus jobs.

I personally, work 2 jobs, one at a daycare and I am also a tour guide at school. I work around 20-22 hours a week and I hold about a 3.7. The reason I say daycare or afterschool or something like that is because these places close at 7. I know I will never get out of work past 6:45 which gives me a lot of time to go to the library and finish my work. It also works out well because daycares need breakers so it’s easy to work like 10-2.

It is a lot of work and it takes good time management skills but it is possible. I’ll post my schedule just to give you an idea of what my average week looks like:

Monday:

Work: 8-4
Class: 4:30-6

Tuesday:
Work: 7:30-9:30
Class: 10-12
Counseling: 1-1:45
Class: 1:50-3:15
Class: 6:10-9:00

Wednesday:
Work (Tour): 10:30-12:30
Class: 1:20-4:20
Class: 4:35-6:00

Thursday:
Class: 10-12
Class: 1:50-3:15
Work: 3:45-6:30

Friday:
Work (Daycare) : 8-2
Work: 2:30-4:30

And an occasional Saturday/Sunday as a tour guide

Get a job on campus where your bum is in a seat for a long period of time. I’ve often found that students who work in places like the front desk of the library computer labs, the front desk of the admissions office, the whatever desk of the whatever administration office have an abundance of time to do homework and study.

@Jazzii‌ Thank you!! Viewing how you set up your schedule is such a big help! I am good at multitasking with other things so I know eventually I will be able to find a balance!

I agree with working on campus, especially because on campus employers are more likely to work around your schedule.
