workload and girls

for all u guys at chicago, how hard is the work load, and are there good looking girls?

Haha, depending on the answer you want, you might want to reexamine your motives for applying.

Hehehe... Now this is good motivation to go to college.

mike, are u saying that its tough as shiiit and there are no good looking girls???

Judging from what I've heard on the forums, such as "the place where fun goes to die" and "if the number of hours of sleep you get per night is less than your GPA you're doing well" I would say it is pretty difficult. As far as the girls... I don't know, or care. I've got a beautiful girlfriend :)

You're soooo looking at the wrong school...check out northwestern.

Agreed.....

haha, im just wondering. i want to go to UofC, but i also enjoy a social scene

Amen thrills. Academics are great, but only one portion of a well rounded life and in my opinion, education.

Good looking girls are everywhere, even at Chicago. Remember Rebecca from the Apprentice---she's from University of chicago, and she's pretty.

thrills you freaking maderchod, this is the most pathetic thread ive seen. stop being a chuthia. you kundi.

haha thrills that's actually a good question! i'm really interested in uchi. i've visited, researched, and i've been set on it since sophomore year. i also just applied ea! regardless, i am still interested in the social scene. i mean, it would obviously be a plus if there were some good looking, intelligent guys there.

the infamous tucker max (tuckermax.com) did put a negative light on UChi. But i'm a girl and I'm not applying there so it really doesn't matter to me.

well, I'm a girl and when I visited I was surprised that the guys were actually pretty cute (cuter than Notre Dame, at least). I didn't think that the female population was as pretty as other campuses (U-M, ND), though.

I have a friend who goes to Chicago and she says that there IS a social scene, albeit a smaller one than, say, Northwestern's.

My S reports that though he spends a great deal of time on academics (seldom in bed before 2 or 3 AM with a 9:30 AM course every day), that he has had a great time socially, made many new friends, has had no problems meeting girls, and loves what he calls the "U of C sense of humor." He even bought one of those "Where fun comes to die" shirts, though he has experienced the opposite.

Of course, fun for some people could be seeing plays and participating in a capella groups...

yea... i love love love the music scene in chicago

Another comment on the social scene - Beyond the on-campus offerings, the entire city of Chicago is readily available to U of C students to expand their social lives. Public transportation (trains and buses) to downtown Chicago and sports venues (such as the two major league baseball parks) is in easy walking distance from campus. (Northwestern U. in Evanston does not have as easy public transit access to downtown Chicago and the near North Side (Rush Street) as U of C students.) The huge variety of relatively inexpensive entertainment options is there for any student's taking at U of C.

Yeah, chicago is actually accessable from our campus unlike northwestern where downtown is an hour and 15 minutes on the train most of the time (when the purple line doesnt run express).

You can get downtown from campus on 3 different train lines and 2 different bus routes. I've never actually taken a bus downtown since I usually leave before the 173X starts running, but it is definately the fastest way home if you are near Michigan avenue.
