Workload

How does the workload at Yale compare to other top universities like Stanford? I'm curious to know.

I heard it's a killer compared to other schools....apparently the only sleep you get is over the weekends.

...please, current yalies please please please comfort me right now

I'm probably a future Yalie and talking to students there, I have heard the workload is what you make it. Sometimes it is killer but people have time for extracurriculars so it can't be all consuming. I heard Directed Studies is particularly time consuming but not all major and programs have the same time demands.

as a current yalie, I can pretty much say that it's whatever you make of it. Many people I know do hardly anything. Some people work and study 18 hours a day. Others just complain about all their work and don't actually do anything.

And whatever you do, don't believe those who tell you that DS is a lot of work. It's perhaps the easiest courseload you can take on your freshman year without getting glares from your adviser for taking ALL gut classes. All the work is neatly staggered too, which certainly isn't the case when you're taking 4 or 5 independent courses.

First semester Math 120 by itself is more work than all 3 DS courses combined.
