I am taking the SAT Subjects Tests this Saturday and I would like some advice on which subjects to take. I am taking Math 2 and Bio for sure, and originally signed up for Lit as my third, but am considering switching to World History. I am currently freaking out because I don't know which one I would score better on...

I took both World History and AP Lit this year, however our World History was more of a European History, as the teacher is the old AP Euro teacher and just tweaked the curriculum. If there was a Euro subject test I would feel extremely confident in it, but non western history I really know nothing about. Also, while I think I did well in Lit, it is not something I really enjoy, whereas history I do.

I did read that the world test curve was EXTREMELY more lenient than the lit one, and if I am rock solid on the Euro part and can reason my way through the rest, would I have a better chance of scoring high on WH than Lit?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

:)

Lit is I think the toughest SAT Subject test, my son scored an 800 on World and 740 on Lit, I would recommened World and the curve is more lenient than Lit. 3 is tough start with the your weakest test and finish on the one you feel most confident.

SAT II WH is a bit more eurocentric than the AP, but I still recall guessing on a few questions about China (fortunately still pulled off an 800). It really depends on what you mean by European history- how well do you how Europe’s interactions with other civilizations? I’d quickly brush up on Chinese dynasties and their significant contributions (really like a sentence of important stuff for each) and African and American civilizations, but overall I think WH looks like a more solid choice if you’re into it. How did you feel after each AP?

WH is all about reasoning your way through, and a lot of questions you don’t know off the top of your head are almost common-sense level.

Thank you for your help! I felt pretty confident after both tests, honestly I will be mad if I don’t get 5s on both. But I will be 10x more mad if I get <750 on Lit after taking AP, which seems pretty realistic if there is a difficult poem written in Old English or something with that horrendous curve. I think I will go with World History, but spend the next few days going over a lot of non western history.

@Bee007 I’ve found that you get a pretty solid grasp of non-European history just by reading up a little bit on the history of China and Islam because China/Islam/Europe interacted pretty extensively with other civilizations. And don’t forget the natives.

An entertaining way to study was by messing around on http://www.r eddit.com/r/AskHistorians
