Worried about admission

I'm currently a Junior in a high school of about 340 students within the Junior class. At the end of the first semester of my Junior year, I ranked 38 making me top 11%. I've recently attended a session at UT with information about admission into the school. It's my understanding that the college allows automatic acceptance to students that are at least top 8%. Currently, I plan on applying to be a Communication Major first with a second choice of Liberal Arts. Will this mean that I will most likely not be accepted into the school? I'm currently taking SAT classes and will be taking both the SAT and ACT tests in June. I understand that these also play a benefactor when applying. Also, I'm greatly involved within the student body and community: Key Club, Student body class president, Reporter for the school show choir, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, All Region Choir and Texas State Solo & Ensemble, plenty of service hours, active member within my church youth group, etc. This year I have taken 6 AP courses, 3 of which I am co-enrolled: English III Pre-AP, U.S. History AP, and Pre-Calculus Pre-AP. Luckily, I have this last semester of my Junior year to hopefully make all A's to bump my GPA and ultimately increase my rank. Assuming I do this with all the other factors I mentioned, will I be able to be accepted into UT?

I think you should be okay, depending on your test scores. Those factor in A LOT.

UT is automatic with 8% but not easily predictable when you are not there. So essentially you need to wait until they consider non-automatic admits to see whether you can get in.

If your scores are good, what you can do is apply really early, as soon as they open the application process in August and don’t wait until November. They will admit some non-automatics early on but as they fill up seats, it gets harder with the number of automatics they have to pay attention to.

What was your PSAT score?
