Worried about Chemistry

I have my test next week and I did bad on the first two quizzes. I have a B but that may change after the first test. I really. hope I can turn things around. Chemistry will limit me to a lot of fields if I cannot pass it.

Tips to help you:

Are there resources on campus you can take advantage of such at tutoring sessions, professors office hours etc.? Have you looked at any online resources such as Khan academy?

Yes but only one hour of tutoring is available for chemistry in the tutoring center only on mondays and wednesdays, there is supplemental instruction (but today it is closed because the SI was ill), and there is tutor.com but it might be hard to communicate questions over the internet.

One resource that seems good is chegg but it costs money, anyone think it is worth It?

When I read “that may change” I thought you meant it might get worse, but you are trying to “turn it around”? You are upset with the B? Failing chemistry will certainly limit your options, but a B will not.

yeah i failed the first test:(. i hope i can turn things around.

My son uses Chegg all the time. I asked the other day if I should drop it and got a NOOOOOO!!! in response. He used it for Chem I and II and it helped. He also used some on-line videos that seemed to help a lot. If you search Organic Chem Tutor on YouTube you will find the videos. They have them for Intro to Chem too. He is using them for Physics II now.

Ok. I just feel bad because I feel like I am making the same mistakes I did in the past.

You have a B and you are worried about failing the class? Really?

You know all the answers - join a study group, go to the math tutoring center if the math is tripping you up, use the online tutorials etc., etc., etc.

No it is worse than that now.

You need to see your professor during office hours. There’s no point coming back to say how bad it is. Do something about it. Everyone above has mentioned resources, so use them.

Chemistry, in general, is hard. You have to work very hard to get a grade you want.

I got a late drop approved by the register for General Chemistry and switched to an 8 week introductory chemistry course. I made the mistake of going into General chemistry with no prior chemistry and am glad I got that mistake fixed. Even though, it’s less intense than General chemistry I still have to work hard since it is an 8 week course like it would be in the summer.

However, i am struggling with another class now and that is Calculus. I failed my calculus midterm but the good news is that if I do better on the final then that score will replace the midterm.

I’m glad you sorted out the Chemistry but you need to seriously work on the calculus. Calculus is a subject that keeps building on earlier knowledge – so if you don’t understand the material now it will be hard to do well as the class moves forward. Do whatever you have to do to understand what went wrong in the midterm-- be sure you understand the past material as well as what is being covered currently – see the professor during office hours, take advantage of any tutoring etc.

On a positive, you seem to be handling things in a much more mature, adult, calm manner and you should feel proud of your personal growth.

How did your semester turn out? I know you were worried about chemistry and calculus. Did switching chem classes help?

Ok. Too be honest with you I got dropped from the into chemistry class during the first week because I didn’t get my lab kit in time because you had to order it online.

So was this whole post made up? Did you take any quizzes, tests?

So you dropped regular chemistry for an 8 week intro chemistry course then got dropped from that too? Do both show up as W’s on your transcript?

How did calculus go?

Do you think it’s possible you might want to move to your grandma’s because you’re struggling in school and hope you’ll do better somewhere else? I think you need to figure out why you’re having so much trouble passing classes. If you’re taking on too much at once the best option is to slow down. This isn’t a race.

Calculus went ok. Neither Intro or general chemistry are on my transcript. I did tests and quizzes for general chemistry but was able to drop it like i would have before class started or during the add/drop period because I had documentation. Intro to chemistry 8 week was online and since it was I had to submit work before the end of add/drop period for my attendance i couldn’t because I couldn’t get my lab kit in time.

You are confusing Ws with drops. Withdrawling and dropping are different.

I mentioned in other threads that I am only taking one class in the spring and that one is physics. I’ll wanna see how that goes because that is an important STEM class and gives people trouble a lot.
