If it weren't for the weather, there would be no question... Notre Dame is hands down my top choice and I reallyyy want to go there. I'm just really nervous about the cold and the lack of sun. I'm from a warm, sunny climate and I'm scared I'd have a hard time adjusting. But every other aspect of the school seems so awesome! Do all the wonderful things about Notre Dame outweigh the bad weather?

Yes. No question about it.

You would get to know the fun of Snowmen, snowball wars, sparkling snow in the sun. It actually gets a good amount of sun, even in winter. You can always dress warm and be out enjoying the brisk air, which is good for you. So… don’t worry about the weather, just prepare for it.

I live in Minnesota, so notre dame in the winter is nothing. It’s really not that bad at all.

Wisconsinite here, you will be fine.

If weather is the only thing holding you back, go! I promise you’ll adjust, just like all the other students from Cali, FL and Texas. The fall and spring are beautiful and you can be home for a month during Dec/Jan.

During my time at ND (a looong time ago,) three of my section mates were from Hawaii. Their idea of “winter gear” was a wool sweater and mittens! After some of us took them out to buy REAL winter clothes, they made it through just fine. Two of them still live in the general area!

I’m a Minnesotan also, so ND’s winters were nothing special in comparison. The kids from warmer climates do adjust though. Winter can be AWESOME if you dress warmly and go out and play in the snow! And few things are prettier than the Notre Dame campus during/after a snowstorm.

Buy yourself some good cold weather lightweight hiking boots. Warm feet make for warm bodies. - and wear a hat. If you do that, you will probably not feel very cold.

I’m from Chicago, so I kind of know the weather that ND will have, and I have to say it’s not that bad. People from warmer areas probably envision it as constant snow and 50 MPH winds in your face and temps constantly below zero. But the truth is that it is usually around 30 degrees with only a few inches of snow at a time (unless we have another Snowmageddon). And if it is like this winter we just finished up, you may have enough warm days to start getting a tan. You will be able to adjust, no matter what. My sister went to school in a cold weather climate with a lot of people from California and Texas, and after the initial shock, she said they all loved the winter. Don’t let something like this hold you back from going to an amazing school.

There is Major Corporation in Minnesota that does not recruit in California. They cannot get students from California to move to where there is snow. The campus recruiting is limited to colleges that have snow on the ground.
