Worried Mom

Hi--
I just found your blog and the link to facebook. I noticed on the Dec. 21 post that you mention that you will email the student and parent when the application was downloaded. My son submitted his application on Dec. 26th. Neither of us has received an email. Is this a problem? The common app has green triangles on all parts of the William and Mary application. Thanks.

You’re fine, they have been out of the office since Christmas. Expect an email this week.

Thanks, that makes sense:).

While W&M has been closed since Dec. 23, we have been downloading applications many of the days during break and sending the emails that correspond.

First, check your spam and junk folders to see if the email has in fact been sent. If you don’t find it, feel free to send us a private message with the student’s name and we can check the application status or you can call us at 757-221-4223. At this time of year, thousands of students click submit each day so there is a slight delay between clicking submit and us actually receiving it from Common App.

I sent my application in early December for RD and got an email that you have received my application.

I haven’t received the second email that says everything has been received. My school says they have sent the transcript and recommendation letter stuff, so I think I’m just waiting on the SAT scores to be received.

I sent the scores on 12/7 and I’m not sure if the admissions office has received them. I’m worried because it’s past the deadline and I haven’t gotten that email yet. Were you checking for SAT scores during the break? I’ll probably end up calling the office.

Hi,

He did find emails from appsupport that says that William and Mary has the common app and the supplement! That is a relief to me:)!

YuppittTales, no worries. Your folder doesn’t have to be completed by the deadline and while we ask that all materials be postmarked by the deadline, if they arrive slightly aftewards, it’s no big deal. We will still gladly accept them and complete your file.

Just be on the lookout for a second email from us letting you know we completed your application. We are completing hundreds of applications each day but it just takes time.

OldUVAgrad, was the email you got from @wm.edu or from a Common App address? The emails you need to get to confirm receipt of anything by our office will come from an @wm.edu domain.

I had him check and it was from common app and not w&M. Now I am worried again! Yikes!

oldUVAgrad, you may want to call us at 757-221-4223 so we can check and make sure we have received the application and that we have the right email address for your student. You are also welcome to send me a private message with your student’s name and I can check for you as to whether or not we’ve received anything for him.

Don’t be worried. If for any reason there was a glitch and we didn’t get his app, we’d just ask him to re-submit it

Hi–
I had my son email admissions yesterday. His response back said there is no file yet, but not to worry if the Common App shows it submitted. I appreciate your help with this:). When should we worry?

His email came today!! Hurray! Thanks for your help. Now, we hope all the pieces arrive from his school/collegeboard/etc in a timely fashion.

Glad your email arrived. Because most of our applicants click submit in the days leading up to the application deadline, there is a delay in us receiving and uploading applications. Our printers have been running non-stop since Monday and we still have several thousand applications still to come through.

It will likely take a few weeks for us to complete your student’s file because we are trying to complete so many but we will absolutely be in touch one way or the other. And, if any materials are missing, we simply ask you to resend.

Thank you so much for answering all of these questions. You have been very reassuring!!
I have one more. My son just won an award this week that is obviously not on his application. It was a local award, not a school award, based on both his academics and his athletics. Is this something he should let admissions know about?

If he wishes to update his file he can simply send an email to admission@wm.edu with the new information in the body of the email (we don’t open attachments by policy to protect against viruses). Include the W&M ID he received in his email from us and we will add the email to his file.
