Worried...

Hey Everyone

I posted a few months back but no one replied so i thought maybe i could give it one more shot in order to be chanced.

Clubs: Cricket Club Founder - Executive on Vox (Yearbook) - Running for Student Trustee (hoping that works out) - General Student Counsel member

Marks:

Volunteer hours is about 100+ and counting (Hospital, Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce [gonna happen next month] )

Thanks for your time :)

BTW: Other Unis I will apply to

MIT, Princeton, UBirmingham (UK), Caimbridge, UCL, Imperial College, McGill, Western, UoToronto, Queens

I understand that you are worried about your chances, but the reality is, especially for Harvard, it is nearly impossible to predict chances. Given that, I think that it will be harder than normal for you to be accepted to Harvard mainly because your record looks very commonplace for the Harvard application pool; I don't see anything that will catch an admissions officer's eye.

All you can do is work especially hard on your essays in order to exude your personality and hope for the best.

Good luck!

okay...thats helps hehe...i was worried about the marks...but i have something big coming up if i get accepted into hehe

I think you should be more worried about a lack of extracurriculars and significant awards.

Considering your less-than-impressive extracurricular activities, I'd say your best bets are the Canadian schools on your list. As an out-of-province student, you'll have your hands full just trying to get into McGill for pre-med, let alone Princeton or MIT.

And unless you are made of money and want an even more compartmentalized education than you'd get in Canada, I don't see why you'd want to get your bachelor's degree in the UK.

UK has a 6 year program where u can get your MB and ChB

and for the ecs

thanks for the input I will definately start to get more involved

thought I would update this since quite a bit of stuff has happened:

Grade 12 (in sept) - Ont, Canada

Gr 11 Math 96%
gr 12 Adv Functions 95%
gr 11 Physics 94%
gr 11 Computer Science 91% (ffs)

Volunteer hours is about 100+ and counting (Hospital, Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce [gonna happen next month] )

Hook:

Youth Delegate for the 2009 Junior Team Canada Trade and Development Mission to Panama and Ecuador

 • Raised $5000 in sponsors (both from corporations and community)
 • I have a few good corporations

BTW: Other Unis I will apply to

MIT, Princeton or Yale, Stanford, UBirmingham (UK), Caimbridge, UCL, Imperial College, McGill, Western, UoToronto, McMaster

You really need to provide more information for anyone to really even start guessing. I know you are retaking SAT but what are your scores to date, then SAT II score, GPA and Rank, rigor of curriculum (how many AP’s possible compared to the 2 you are taking, what are other schoolmates taking). Voluntter hours - 100 over what period of time. I know nothing about this team canada trade. You would be a foreign applicant and, as I understand that, that is an even more selective group for the Harvard, Princeton, MIT or Yale. I think without further facts, the advice you have already been given is good.

I would choose on tract (UK or USA) and stick with it. UK schools don’t really care about your ECs, much more grade centered. You’d be hard pressed having a decent chance at any of the top unis if you divided your attention too much.

Okay so after reading your posts i thought i would be a bit more specific:

Grade 12 - Ont, Canada

PROGRAM : BioChem, Health Sciences (Pre-med track)

SAT - Redoing : 1650/(redo) … (wasn’t my best day)
SAT II - Math II, Bio, Chem (will be done in Oct/Nov)

Next year *
AP: Calc, Stats (other possible APs are music, latin, french, history, eng, writers craft)

Max APs a student is taking is 4
Other Courses: Bio, Chem(Gifted), Physics (Gifted), Comp Sci, exercise science

gpa: would be 3.7 (92% avg)
rank in school: school doesnt rank but definately top 15 students

Clubs: Cricket Club Founder - Executive on Vox (Yearbook) - Convener for Student Counsel - joining BioMed Club next year  (adds up to anywhere between 4 hours to 9-10 hours a week)

Marks:
gr 11 Bio 92%
gr 11 Law 93%
gr 11 Chem 95%
Gr 11 Math 96%
gr 12 Adv Functions 95%
gr 11 Physics 94%
gr 11 Computer Science 91% (ffs)
gr 11 English 80% <-------- very depressing

Volunteer hours is about 100+ over my years at highschool
