Worst college websites

i love the ones with virtual tours only when it shows the OUTSIDE CAMPUS though. Its cool!

let’s think of some NICE college websites now…
hmm… i like william and mary’s and notre dame’s!

Harvey Mudd’s website has the worst color scheme ever.

I liked CalTech’s website. Purdue’s was a nightmare. I never could find things. Like my financial aid award.

Carnegie Mellon…I can’t FIND anything!

yeah columbia is a PAIN to navigate.

George Washington could be a lot better. UPenn is undesirable.

Bates’ color scheme is really boring and outdated. GW’s sucks too

I agree about Duke’s…blech. Harvard’s is surprisingly uninspired and annoying to navigate. The color scheme on WUSTL’s main page is pretty awful.

WUSTL is pretty bad all around. I forgot. American’s new website is also trying way, way too hard for the whole Web 2.0 thing.

We were very bored when we ran through U Mississippi’s website. We expected more personality from a school with such… “personality”. And we actually enjoy pictures; this site didn’t have any that engaged us (silly, I know). It’s still on the list as an OOS safety, but it’s dangling by a thread.

I don’t about a lot of the web sites, but I have to agree with the nominations of WUSTL(!) and Brown.

Caltech’s admission site was quite lame and boring. It’s main website and other departments aren’t as bad though.

So far Penn State has been the worst for us.

I like Northwestern and Michigan’s websites. Never had difficulties finding information.

The worst part of the bad vitural tours is when the caption says something like “This is Wilson Hall, one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings on campus” and the photo is of a lab with a bunch of students looking in microscopes…or it’s a closeup shot of a doorway or fancy window.

i have to agree Duke’s bugs me so much. the links and writing is so small and the layout is not interesting, in fact, it makes me not want to stay on the website
and i hate the ones that have the links for virtual tours and then you click it and it takes you to a page about random infromation that has nothignt o do with virtual tours. Sometimes they put up a picture or 2 but sometimes not!

GOOD

University of Waterloo (uwaterloo.ca) - clean, consistent, and functional design that works and looks nice
University of Pittsburgh (www.pitt.edu) - logical and fast to navigate
Colorado School of Mines (mines.edu) - very nice looking but still functional
Washington State (wsu.edu) - easy to work with
UCLA (www.ucla.edu) - acceptable to use, stunning aesthetics

BAD

University of British Columbia (ubc.ca) - getting information is like pulling teeth with tweezers
University of Toronto (www.utoronto.ca) - some departments have nice pages, but the main site is impossible to navigate
Caltech (www.caltech.edu) - unnattractive and difficult to use
Harvey Mudd College (www.hmc.edu) - truly horrific in text-only

BAD:
Admissions @ U of Washington: difficult to find the information you just know must be there somewhere

Georgetown by far.

http://uadmissions.georgetown.edu/
