lmao @ artichokes..That's gotta be the worst I've heard.

how about the syracuse orangemen?? that always makes me laugh.

smith is the pioneer women... they used to be the virgins, lol.
SMU (i think) is the horned frog.

but, yeah artichokes does it for me.

SMU is the mustang. TCU is the horned frog (which is actually a type of lizard).

well my favorite one is the golden bear go uc berkeley

carnegie mellon tartans. Tartan is a Scottish plaid.

Ohio Wesleyan: Battling Bishops
College of the Atlantic: Black Flies
Illinois College: Blue Boys
Purdue: Boilmakers
Franklin & Marshall: Diplomats
CSU-Long Beach: Dirtbags (men's baseball)

These are some pretty funny mascot names, but none can compare to Crazy Go Nuts University's Dumples.

Fighting and sometimes striving,
Wondering what the Dumple is,
Excellence and what is valor?
And The Cheat will hit stuff with a golf club! CGNU!

If you're confused, allow me to refer you to the sb email, mascot, from www.homestarrunner.com. (Link: http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail73.html) It might even explain how some of these actual colleges actually derived their mascot names.

Connecticut College... the camel.. when i heard that i was like... um.. maybe this school isn't for me. The camel is just such a random animal!

Williams -- Purple cow
UCIrvine -- anteater

Any college that has a color for a mascot automatically has a bad mascot.

Stanford Cardinal
Harvard Crimson
NYU Fighting Violets
Cornell Big Red
Dartmouth Green

i thought NYU switched to the bobcats...im not sure tho

pookdog, a color is not a mascot --

hahahaha the artichokes one is hilarious.

and FYI, Cornell is actually the Cornell Bears.

LOL! some of these are hilarious (Varmits???)

And we thought the Tufts Jumbos was bad. I could hardly get S to consider it with such a dorky mascot ;)

collegeparent:

Exactly, a color is not a mascot. Which makes the mascots for these schools so bad. These colors actually are the mascots for these otherwise great colleges.

Cardinal is a bird I thought?

Pookdog, neither Dartmouth, Harvard nor Stanford has an official mascot, i.e. a physical embodiment of a symbol for the athletic program. Thus, their colors cannot qualify as mascots. In sports reporting these three college's teams, sports writers will refer to them by their colors, but that doesn't mean the color is the team's mascot. In Stanford's case, there is a mascot The Tree which is actually associated with the school's marching band and not any athletic team.

hahaha artichoke. and i thought high school mascots were bad .. for waterpolo we played this one team named the Magnolias.. i was like.. who could name their team after a flower? how sad. i always thought the banana slug was pretty weird, as well as the anteater.. and *** is an aggie? but syracuse orangemen and NYU fighting violets is still pretty weird. what exactly is an orangeman? do violets fight? my 2 cents: don't name athletic teams after flowers. it just doesn't work.

Allena: It is, but that's not what Stanford means. ;)

I don't have a favorite for the worst, but I do get giggles reading over the ones already mentioned.
