Best and worst college mascots

What are your favorite and least favorite college mascots (regardless of how you feel about the school itself)?

I think the Stanford Cardinal and the Dartmouth Big Green are two of the worst mascots ever, but I'm very partial to Wake Forest's Deamon Deacons. :)

The least favorite is the Maryland Terripins. A Terripin is a TURTLE! How can any sports team fear a turtle.

Fav - PSU Lions, as would be Columbia if its sports were up to par, I like the Bulldogs, Blue Devils, Tigers, and Deamon Deacons alot (Yale Duke Pton Wake). Trojans and Longhorns are both cool mascots/logos (maybe I'm biased based on the championship being tonight).

Least - Banana Slugs! I think they are from UCSD. And Quakers. Cmon now. And UMD needs a new mascot too.

The TV commercial they run during Maryland sports events with the multiplying turtles is very cool.

Worst--the guy in the Arizona State mustard suit...

I'm partial to the Williams Purple Cow.

"Least - Banana Slugs! I think they are from UCSD."

The UC San Diego mascot is a Trition and the Banana Slugs are for UC Santa Cruz.

As for me....

Least: Stanford Cardinal, Virginia Tech Hokies(?!; what on earth is a Hokie?)
Favorites: UCLA Bruins, Cal Golden Bears, Michigan Wolverines, USC Trojans

I go to Syracuse, and the whole "orangemen" to "orange" mascot change was sorta unnecessary. we're still trying to figure out if our mascot is the COLOR orange or the fruit...

I like the Fighting Irish, and I've always liked bears as a mascot, so any school with a bear has a good mascot.

upenn quakers ugh.

My High School mascot is the peglegs though. hahah PH33R THE HANDICAPPED!

Humm probably I like UW Huskies, but didn't really like UCSC's Banana Slug.

Delta State (you've never heard of it) has the fighting okra.

NYU Violets. are ya kidding me????

UPenn Quakers -- kinda funny, since UPenn was the first (?) nonsectarian college in the US.

In any case, Quakers are much better than Harvard's mascot Harvard.

Haverford has the Black Squirrels. This is made worse by the fact that their current mascot replaced their delightfully counterintuitive older one, the Fighting Quakers.

How about St. Louis University Billikens? What the hell is a Billiken???

While this isn't college related, I do know of an Alabama baseball team with the Montgomery Biscuits as their mascot...I think I'd want to go see them just for their mascot.

I actually like the NYU Violets, but then, I'm not much of a sports fan. :)

I'm also partial to the Tufts Jumbos because I think the story behind the mascot is cool. (From the school website: The story of Jumbo dates back to 1885, when P.T. Barnum (co-founder of Barnum and Bailey's Circus and a Tufts trustee) donated the stuffed remains of Jumbo the elephant to Tufts following a four-year world tour. Perhaps the most famous of Barnum's attractions, Jumbo was put on display in Barnum Museum on the Medford/Somerville campus and was adopted by the University as its mascot. For 86 years, Jumbo served as a popular on-campus display and source of campus lore (students used to place a penny in his trunk before exams for good luck). Tragically, a major fire in Barnum Hall destroyed Jumbo in 1975, leaving only a piece of his tail, a charred tusk and some ashes. Phyllis Byrne, an administrative assistant in the athletic department, reacted quickly to the tragedy and had Jumbos ashes collected in an empty peanut butter jar. Over the years, the jar has been passed down to each athletic director and remains a good luck charm for Tufts athletes who rub it before big games.)
