Worst Sleeping Arrangements at an Overnight??

Does anyone have some good stories about the worst/most unusual night’s sleep they got on a college overnight visit?

I went on my last overnight about two weeks ago. My host was great but his room was a total wreck/mess. He told me not to worry about the bees in the nest up on his ceiling (“they’re just carpenter bees”) and not to worry about the dorm building looking a little rough “because it’s slated to be torn down soon.” I got to sleep on his floor (well, on the stuff ON his floor)…

I slept fine but wondered if that was the experience the college wanted me to have?

The colleges don’t necessarily fully vet their hosts (and certainly don’t ascertain the cleanliness of their rooms). I would take this as a reflection on the individual host and wouldn’t read too much more into it

Agree with you there. When my brother went on overnights he got he impression he’d been sent to the newer dorms on the campuses he visited - but maybe it was just by chance. I didn’t really care about the room/dorm (I’m not the neatest person myself)…the important thing was that the host was great.

The bees were kind of a drag though.

It does amaze me that some colleges don’t at least try to show rooms in good repair. Or where the bathrooms are functional.

I’ve told about a tour where the dorm room shown was 3 beds, 2 closets, 2 dressers, 2 desks, badly stained rug, bugs on the sills, torn screens.

My daughter went on an overnight, slept on a sofa somewhere in an upper lounge area, and got kind of turned around when a fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. Her host forgot about her in the moment…turned out fine!
