<p>Go ahead and chew me out for saying it, but I feel like most people that think of German as an ugly language have their opinions based almost entirely on stereotype, with little first-hand experience. German really isn't that gutteral, especially compared to Arabic or Hebrew or Russian or a whole host of other languages, and yet German is always the one that gets bashed.</p>

<p>I think the entire WWII/Nazi thing has put a horrible stigma on the German language, which is why people think it sounds "harsh" or "evil". </p>
<p>(Whether or not it's because of that stigma...) German. Oh, and Chinese.

<p>I think most people are choosing German because it's one of the few languages taught in schools...usually English, French, Spanish, and German. I really think to someone who has actually learned German, it is actually quite a beautiful language. You can't really say German romance or drama is bad unless you've read it and understood what was being said.</p>
