I took AP bio last year as a freshman. I did really well in the class and while I was studying for the exam, I got 5s on all the practice tests, and pretty far above the cutoff too. I got very sick on the day of the AP exam so I ran out of time and only answered 6 of the 8 free response questions. I got a 4 and was pretty happy with that given the circumstances, but most of the colleges I’m planning on applying to only give half credit for a 4 and I think I could have gotten a 5 if I wasn’t sick. I’m intending to major in chemistry or some type of engineering(mechanical, chemical, or electrical most likely), will I need more than a semester of biology for that? If so is it worth the time and money spent to retake it in the hopes of getting a 5(compared to the cost of the college course)
I don’t think it’s worth it. It looks like you’ll either need a decent amount of biology (more than a semester of an intro course) for your intended major, or you won’t need it at all.
Instead, you should focus on other AP courses that can help you place out of intro classes you’ll actually need for your major (Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, etc.). I can see how this situation is tough though. It really sucks that getting sick affected how you did on a test you were definitely ready for. Good luck!
