worth mentioning?

hey, im applying early to a couple of college and was hoping to get some advice on whether or not i should add a particular piece of information to my application. Just some background info, i go to a well ranked public high school and have a relatively high gpa (about 3.8) and pretty good test scores (2140 sat, 780 math 2, 760 chemistry). The weakest part of my application is AP classes. The registration for them was during spring vacation of my sophomore year, and i went on vacation with my family, so i missed the deadline. I talked to some teachers and got put on a waiting list for 3 AP classes but when junior year rolled around, i didnt actually get any of them, and ended up with no APs. To try to make up for this, i signed up for one of my schools most difficult electives. Towards the end of junior year, when signing up for my senior year classes, i signed up for 2 APs and another very difficult elective but only got one of the APs.

Because of this, I only have one AP class, and its in my senior year. I was wondering whether i should mention the circumstances for why this is in the additional information section of the common app. If you guys recommend mentioning it, how would i do it without making it seem like im just making excuses, if thats possible.

Thanks
