I'm curious to see how valuable the autodesk certification test is for engineers. I've been on google looking at other sites and it doesn't seem to boost anything significantly. They've said its pretty easy and doesn't prove much competence... almost false advertisement. The general consensus I see is that its nice to see that a person has taken the test because it shows some drive and initiative but at the end of the day it doesn't add much to a company's bottom line. Does anyone have any experience with having taken the test and its effects on employment? Or maybe some comments from someone within the industry looking at a resume declaring certification... what would you think? I can't help but notice that there are very few certification centers on the east coast which implies to me that the industry doesn't give two hoots about it. But, anyway, thoughts?

I'm also curious to see if anyone in the industry cares about being certified in Microsoft programs like excel, powerpoint, and word. I understand that these aren't "engineering" in nature but I feel like that they are a soft skill that should be in every person's wheelhouse regardless of industry or profession. Then again, I'm not in the field so what the heck do I know. Once again, any thoughts on being an engineer having microsoft certification credentials?

Actually now that I'm writing this, are there any certifications (other than the obvious PE) that an engineering student SHOULD strive for?
