I am currently making my final college decision, and it is down to Caltech and Purdue. I am majoring in either engineering or physics (not sure yet), and I would much prefer Caltech. However, if I went to Caltech I would have to take out ~$100,000 in loans, whereas if I go to Purdue I would not have to take out any. I am planning on attending graduate school after college, so I am kind of reluctant to have too much undergraduate debt. I'm interested in other people's opinions on the issue. Would a Caltech education be worth all of the debt?

No. It’s not, go to Purdue if u think it fits u

Purdue is a great engineering school. Although CalTech is a great school, $100k is way too much if you’ve got a free ride at Purdue IMO. Good Luck.

Why do you need to take out 100k loans for Caltech? Why aren’t you getting enough FinAid?

sometimes parents that can spend 100k on your education would rather spend it on other things

Based on the FA package, no college is worth $100,000 in loans for undergraduate. If Caltech will not give more grants, then in your shoes I would go to Purdue.

If you really need to take out $100,000 in loans to pay for Caltech, contact the admissions and financial aid office and explain why you need more financial aid. They will give you enough aid so you can afford Caltech. Standard forms like FAFSA and CSS Profile don’t always work for special cases that need to be explained personally.
