If, lets say a kid gets a 3.3 GPA at johns hopkins university and hes applying to harvard transfer. would this be seen as the same if he went to a much much less prestigious college and got a 3.9-4.0 since JHU is much more stressful?

plain and simple, a 3.3 aint gonna do it, i think that 3.5 is the BARE minimum, i think u prob need at least a 3.7 to be in the running

w. a 3.6 at Cornell first semester, i got waitlsited by columbia and duke, so figure similar results for a 3.6 at JHU, i am venturing to say

I agree with bball.

ceteris paribus.

While going to a prestigious university certainly helps, it won't be able to make up for that kind of grade discrepancy. The difference between a 3.3 and a 3.9 is HUGE. I could definitely see someone getting a few .1's onto their GPA for going somewhere crazy like MIT, but not six.

Sorry, dude. You might want to think about shooting lower than Harvard.

I once saw a poster with a 3.3 from Columbia who said he got into Harvard. Is it True? How the h/ell should I know?

There are always going to be those cases... However, most of the "competitive applicants" generally have at least a 3.5, if not greater...
