Would a school counselor mention negative things about a student in his recommendation?

I had bad relationships with a few teachers, and my teachers sent email to my counselor how I am disrespectful. I think my depression affected relationship with my teachers, and my counselor knows that I have been having tough times after moving during junior year. Would counselor write bad things about me in his recommendation? I already applied regular decision to a few colleges, and I am freaking out because of this. Would my teacher who has bad relationship with me send email to my targeted college directly?

Thank you for your insights

You’re being paranoid. No teacher would sabotage your plans. They frankly want you to succeed. Same with the GCs. Most schools aren’t going to worry about these details unless it was a criminal or serious disciplinary situation. And even with those, colleges will admit if there’s enough reason to assume the problem has been properly addressed.

Remember, you’re the source of +4 years of tuition and fees. Colleges WANT to admit you.

My job as a teacher in writing those letters is to make the truth sound as good as I can. I know that I won’t click with every kid I teach, and that’s to be expected. And I know that some kids are going through rough times. I like kids-- it’s why I got into teaching in the first place.

I’m guessing you didn’t ask those particular teachers for recommendations, right?

Your counselor will find the best things he or she can think of to write about you.

And the teachers to whom you were disrespectful will probably just be glad not to be teaching you again. No one will go out of their way to sabotage your applications.

Deep breaths. I’m sure your letters are fine.
