I just sent in a 200 word (their limit) editorial on Gerrymandering to the Plain Dealer newspaper (The main Cleveland Newspaper). If it's published, would it make any kind of difference to an application for highly selective schools, specifically if my major will probably be PoliSci? Thanks!

If you make a point of entering into additional notable advocacy work, then maybe it could help paint a picture of your main interests. If it just stands alone, then I doubt it would mean much. Keep building on it. Get behind an issue and get involved. Just my 2 cents.

The selectivity of a newspaper’s op ed section isn’t the greatest, jaw-dropping achievement. Plus, yours isn’t even published yet. Keep being involved. Have 3 paragraphs of text in a newspaper should not much to hang your hat on. Keep working on real issues. If publishing opinion pieces are a part of that, good. But just b/c it’s picked? Not that special, IMHO.
