WSJ Articles

Today's Wall Street Journal had two articles that may be of interest.

First, Online Applications to College Surge provides a brief overview of electronic apps, and how widely they are being used, pros and cons, etc. Nothing in here is earth-shattering for CC members, but there did appear to be one point worth noting. The article states that "schools say that the essay demands and application are the same for both paper and online applicants". Based on an earlier thread, though, I know that there are several people who feel that the online essay tools aren't flexible enough to allow for poetry, formatting, underlining, etc. that would allow an applicant to show their uniqueness.

Second, and less directly, there's a review of a book called "Making Great Decisions" that sounds like it could be a helpful resource in the college application process. I particularly like this: "A recurrent theme in the book is the importance of focusing on the right objective, which is not necessarily the objective that's on your mind when you're making a decision".

Just food for thought.

Thanks, I'll chase down the book.

can you post the link or article

Well, unfortunately no. I assume the articles are also posted on the WSJ online site (<a href="http://www.wallstreetjournal.com)%5B/url%5D">www.wallstreetjournal.com)</a>, but that site requires a paid subscription that I don't have. Both articles were in the "Personal Journal" section of today's edition.
