Would anybody say....

would anybody say living in dorms is way more expensive then living in apartments?

Normal Dorm + Food and all the stuff (movies, fun, food, travel, shopping)- appx. 13000/YR

Apartment- Rent 4000/12 month
Food 2000/12 month
Others 2000/12 month

An apartment for $4,000 for the year? That's $333 per month...are you sharing the apartment with two other people and splitting the rent three ways?

lmao your calcuations are all wrong

food- 2000/12 months...you're gonna spend $5.47 a day on food? What are you gonna eat a cheesburger for breakfast a cheeseburger for lunch and one for dinner? Come on! better make that

food-At least 6000/12months....btw you probably wont be spending 12 months in college anyway so give or take vacations I'd say you'd spend around 4000 a year on food

rent-most of the time it'll be 6000 for rent

others-electrical bills, telephone bills, cable bills, internet bills, water bills (didnt even include accessories such as clothes or electronics)...lmao unless you got a bunch of roomates or you found a KILLER deal i say living in a dorm is easier and about the same price.

If you eat nothing but 2 packs of Ramen noodles for B,L, and D; it would only cost you $365 for the whole year!

"lmao your calcuations are all wrong"

I dont think so...

"food- 2000/12 months...you're gonna spend $5.47 a day on food? What are you gonna eat a cheesburger for breakfast a cheeseburger for lunch and one for dinner? Come on! better make that"

I dont think so dude. I plan on buying groceries and cooking.. so that means i will cook raw food which wont be as much... as I am a good chef. In canada it is like 200 times each time u go... and I go once everyother week

"btw you probably wont be spending 12 months in college anyway"

In Canada leases are 12 months... I plan on at least spending 11 months and then signing the same lease at the same place"

"rent-most of the time it'll be 6000 for rent"

Yea in Canada i dont think its as expensive but they have a deal for college students.. the one Im looking at is 333 a month. its 3 room.

"others-electrical bills, telephone bills, cable bills, internet bills, water bills"

bundled service in rogers with phone, cell, internet and tv is about 200

water included, heating will be like 100/mth

I have no idea about the truth in your calculations but I know that around Wash DC & metro area it is MUCH less expensive to live in a dorm than it is to live in an apartment. I know kids who live in apartments(and they're not half as nice as the dorms) and they're paying over twice what it would cost for a dorm.

Even if you have a single dorm room, all your room and board expenses would definitely be under $11,000, and with a double I paid about $7000 this past year. Apartments usually don't do much better than breaking even, it takes a lot of planning for them to actually be cheaper. The rewards of an apartment is more that you are more independent and not bothered by crazy people you don't want to see. Those prices are in US dollars, obviously it'd be higher in Canada.

Wow $333 a month total for a three bedroom???

I was looking at sharing a Studio Apartment for nearly $500 in Westwood.

Also Matthew, that's not always going to be true. For a double at UCLA (plus food) I'm paying a little under $12,000 for next year.

My room and board has 13 meals a week. If you eat 3 meals a day as part of your meal (21 meals/week), then that would probably cost an extra grand.

As a fellow Canadian, Canadian_ is almost right.
You can find rent for $333 a month in little towns not in the hugh cities like Montreal or Toronto.
However Matthew for a room and board in Canada a single room and board will be around 8000 for a regular meal plan.
The problem with Apartments is if its not close to school you will have to take public transportant :( lets not forget to add that into the cost.
