Yea, guys do you guys know how much an apartment would cost in college? Im looking to go to one that is decent and is walking distance to lots of stuff even though I have a car. Im in Canada by the way and I plan on going to a University in Ontario. I mean the fact that by the second year I want to live by myself.. and my parents will help with the rent, including phone bills, internet bills and stuff, however gas and insurance will be up to me...

And people in apartments.. how long do you live there for? Also do you buy new furniture or just use the ones at home? Im thinking about just taking furiniture for my room however I feel that its kinda old. I plan on going to undergrad for 4 years (hopefully co-op-- BTW.. how much does that like pay?) Then working at TD Bank for 2 years then going back to school for my MBA.

Heres how I see it:
Apartment 800/mth
Insurance, Bills, Gas 250/mth
Recreation, Food, Lesuire 200/mth

Where in Ontario are you hoping to go to university? Because that will affect the apartment rental costs (an apartment in Toronto is probably going to cost more than one in Kingston or London)

Considering you're only 14 right now, I wouldn't worry about apartments, bills, etc. First focus on getting into university; then you can look at the cost of living in the city you're attending university.

Please stop bumping your post, especially since you only posted this about 1.5 hours ago. If someone can answer, they will.

1200 dollars a month is kinda high in US dollars. I'm not sure how it translates in Canada. Most apts require that you sign a 6 month lease, which means you have to pay rent for at least 6 months. So before you choose an apt you better be sure it's what you want and that you can afford it for 6 months. Most good college towns have lots of inexpensive apts where many students live. You can even find rooms-for-rent for like 200 dollars a month.

Does $200/month for food/leisure seem a little low to anyone else? (I don't know, I guess I expected the food to cost more...shrugProbably just me.)

For apartment listings, UWO has an off-campus housing section on their website that might be helpful.

Canadian_, you don't seem to be very consistent with your posts...

"Does $200/month for food/leisure seem a little low to anyone else? (I don't know, I guess I expected the food to cost more...shrugProbably just me.)"-- I am buying a meal card (the smallest one) so I could order and stuff, and I plan on gooing home for at least 5 days a month, and my mom usually just makes me bring food that she buys (this is when I go to boarding Schools).

okay - here's how my apartment breaks down for charlottesville va, i'm sure it will be different for you

for my portions of the bills: about $400 for rent, about $50 for electricity, about $50 for heating gas, about $50 for gas for my car, about $20 for water and trash, and i spend about $220 on groceries a month. Then considering all my other expenses like going out with friends, clothes, tolietries, etc, I easily spend about 1000 a month (US). Apartment living is not cheap but it really varies per school, and there just tend to be so many expenses you don't even realize.

it really depends on wehre u live for how much an apartment will cost u. my cuzin lives in queens new york and pays $1400 a month and my friends in MD pay about $850 so it really depends on ur location for how much ur monthly costs will be.
