I'll most likely be applying again to Harvard this year after having been rejected last year (applied as a junior). Although I was rejected, I think that I at least have a nonzero chance of getting in - I was emailed by my admissions officer asking me for some of my work in math, so that's a good sign (I think).

Has anyone else applied again? Do you know if they have your application from last time? And would you even recommend applying again, or is it a sure rejection?

Why did you apply for college during your junior year of high school?
Did you apply to other colleges as well?
If not, why did you just apply to Harvard?

Since you were contacted by an admissions officer for a sample of your work in math, I’m going to guess that you are a gifted math student (probably with strong showings in math competitions).

To be honest, I don’t think that a rejection the year before would be counted as a negative by the admissions committee. It would seem to be a little out of the ordinary, though.

If you’ve been productive in the past year, I would think that this could only help your chances. Good luck.

I applied to a few other colleges, and was rejected from those as well. I have various reasons for applying, but it was mainly because my area has limited opportunities, especially compared to college.

I hope so. I’m torn between whether I should apply to Harvard or not (I’m not going to apply to the other colleges I was rejected from). Harvard’s just been my favorite, so… yeah. :)

@hawaii4lyfe,
Are you a Pacific Islander or Asian male? These are two different things. For an Asian male your scores are not high enough and you need to improve your ECs. Top schools are not looking just for students with high scores and gpa but leadership qualities as well. Yo need to regroup and do some self-reflection. There must be a reason that you were rejected from the schools you were applied for and was reflected in your application.

Not that I disagree at all with what you say, but if you saw my stats through my posts, I was a bit… judicious in listing my ECs, as I didn’t want to be easily identifiable. I have many more, I just didn’t want to write them all out. But yeah, thank you for the advice Ana1. I appreciate it a lot.
