Applying to Harvard Twice?

I am appling to Harvard as a transfer (from a small community college in New Mexico) in February for next Fall. If I don't get in this year I am planning on applying again in 2009.

I know that on the application they ask if you've ever applied to Harvard. Would it look bad if I applied this again? Do they keep a record?

I was going to apply in Feb of this year for the Fall, but I didn't feel ready. I feel more prepared now...should I take my chances?

What's the record number of times someone has applied to Harvard and eventually got in as an undergraduate?

I believe that the record is four (one freshman, one visiting undergraduate, and two transfer). I'm not the record-holder.

wow...that's pretty insane...so do they keep a file or record of some sort with your old application and pull it out when you apply again? lol

they do, they are required to keep all application files for a certain number of years after you apply,

when you apply as a transfer they ask you if you've applied before and what year. I assume that they will pull your applications from previous years and look at them as well. I know that they do this for a fact at Yale - I had to call them last year to confirm that they received some documents I sent and so the woman I was on the phone with was going through my file and telling me what was there, everything that I sent in as a freshman applicant was in my folder right next to my transfer application.

It only makes sense that they do this, but if you had a really bad freshman application and you have changed, don't worry, colleges understand that people change, having previously been a bad applicant doesn't necessarily disqualify you this time around.

Well said, transferapp07

"do they keep a file or record of some sort with your old application and pull it out when you apply again?"

Yes, I actually saw my file with the three applications in it. (When you enroll, your application/s are forwarded to your dean, so they have it to refer to if you apply to grad school, run into academic trouble, etc. That's where I saw mine.)
