Would Columbia see anything in my app?

Hi guys,

I was wondering how plausible it would be for me to get accepted to Columbia ED.

3.65 UW GPA/ 4.4 WGPA at highly competitive school (Doesn't rank)
2320 SAT
800's in Math I and Math II in middle school
800 in Spanish
790 in Physics
Taking Princeton Course in Spanish
Medical research at two prestigious medical schools (published 2 peer-reviewed papers)
Silver medal at a well-known national science competition
Other minor awards
two officerships in two different science clubs
Tournament-level chess player

Ideas?

Ivy League admissions are tricky. But I’d say you have as good of a shot as any, but I’d raise your unweighted GPA. Also AP scores?

@puumba, Unfortunately I’m a junior, so barring first sem. senior grades, that’s what Columbia is going to see. So far I’ve gotten all 5’s in the AP Exams I’ve taken, and should be a National AP Scholar by the end of junior year.

EDIT: never mind, just saw that your school doesn’t rank…

As far as chances, your test scores are good so maybe that’d make up for your low gpa… But the problem is your ECs aren’t amazing either… Still, I wouldn’t say you have no chance at all… Still worth applying. (possibly ED? )

Good luck! Columbia’s awesome :)

Thanks for the input! Aren’t you a bit young to be on this site? :P

Me? Lol, I’m a junior…

Oh, wait. Wow. I’m an idiot who can’t count. Sorry.

Haha that’s fine…

Bumpity bump

Wait so is Columbia ED a smart idea?

Triplenickle my d got accepted, she didn’t got the perfect sat or act, but she got IN for her science research program that she did for 4 years, and she participate on a lot of competitions and won most of the time…Ed is tricky doesn’t roll over be carefully with that, few kids from my d school did Ed and didn’t roll over to regular. Good luck

@triplenickel, applying ED will increase your chances at being accepted. Of course, it is a commitment, so you will have to take it when you are accepted. If you are committed, the only reason I can think of not to apply ED is if you expect much better grades your senior year and would like the college to see more of your grades (ED will see only the first quarter, RD - two quarters).

There is literally no context for your GPA so it’s very difficult to tell. Does your school use Naviance or any similar program where you can figure out the average GPA for accepted students? Or perhaps ask your GC?

The average weighted GPA for most Ivies around my school is roughly the same as mine. Beyond that, I don’t know much.
