dad makes ~180k per year, for example i am interested in IU which cost 47k total per year, would i get anything?

Use the Net Price Calculator on the school’s website.

At IU…not likely that you would get anything need based at all. But you can take a $5500 Direct Loan.

If it is just you going to college, then your EFC is going to be beyond what IU costs.

the fact that you mention $47k tells me that you are OOS. So, even if your dad earned $80k and your EFC was $15k, you wouldn’t get FA.

You’re OOS. Your parents don’t pay taxes there. do you think the tax-paying citizens of Indiana want to pay for you to go to IU? Uh, no.

Why would a public charge high OOS rates if they’re just going to cover it with FA? Think about that. If that were the case, wouldn’t you think that they would just charge everyone instate rates and save themselves a whole bunch of money? lol

However some schools give merit aid for high stats because the school benefits from that. However, your stats aren’t high enough for merit.

What is your dad saying about how much he’ll pay? That answer will determine where you can afford to go to school.

yea I can technically afford it, but I would have to take part out in a loan to pay myself, I dont know if I would get into UIUC so IU is my second choice

Is your dad telling you that you’d have to take out a student loan? If so, that’s $5,500 as a frosh.

yes

So, your dad has said that he’ll pay $42k and you have to pay $5500 with a loan? If so, that doesn’t sound bad.

What is your major?

yea he said he’ll pay 90% which is about that, finance or supply chain management, not completely sure yet

Why not also look at some in-state schools where he might pay the whole thing?

no good ones except illinois, where im not sure if ill get in

What is your home state??

IL

Why do you think that the only good school in IL is UIUC?

because it really is except northwestern and city schools, which i do not want to go to

You need to know your annual college budget…what your parents and you will contribute annually. Then you need to work within that budget.

Your dad earns $180,000 a year. This isn’t going to put you in the running for need based aid except at schools like HYPS…and if you feel it’s a stretch for UIUC, it would be a bigger admissions stretch for those.

COA for UIUC is about $30K for instate. You are using OOS prices. Is there a reason why you cannot get an instate price?

It is highly unlikely you will get financial aid with your family income up there from UIUC and they don’t give out much merit either SO you will likely be full pay there.

the OP was about indiana u

You won’t be getting aid from from Indiana either.
