Would I like it at SMU?

Current students–especially in the Honors program–, prospective students, and parents, please be honest: would I like it at this school?

I’m very interested in SMU right now because it’s close to home, it’s in a really awesome area (Dallas! ), and it’s got a reputation for providing good networking in Texas. I’m also kinda interested in studying economics/business at the moment. (I keep changing my mind!) I haven’t visited and experienced the campus yet though, so I don’t know how well I would fit.

Take a look?

I’m a black female who isn’t interested in Greek life. I do like to be involved in school activities though.

I’m not too socially awkward, but I do kinda tend to keep to myself at first. After that, I’m the craziest, most extroverted person you’ll ever meet :))

I’m not bookish, but I do tend to focus more on academics than parties. (Speaking of, how’s the party scene? Like, I know it’s there, but how intense is it? Is it mostly limited to Greek Life, or can GDIs join in too?)

I’m Christian, but not Baptist or Methodist, and I have moderate to conservative political leanings.

I’m also a pretty artsy and creative person–more of the Pinterest variety than the tumblr variety, if that makes any sense. You could and could not describe me as kind of preppy in style of dress and attitude because of my current environment (southern preppy private school), but I consider myself more laidback.

I’m fairly ambitious, but I’m not crazy about it

I’ve also heard that most of the students are really wealthy, but I’d consider myself more middle class.

So what do you think? Based on those traits, is it a good fit, or should I consider somewhere else?

Yes you’d fit just fine. The stereotypes you’ve heard aren’t exactly true. If you look at the common data set you will learn many students get some form of aid. Also it isn’t religious either.

My son attended SMU and wore shorts everyday and didn’t attend Greek parties. He chose not to and it wasn’t a big deal. He loved SMU.

You ought to visit to see if you feel like it fits. Fit is an important part of the college process. Good luck!!

@newjersey17 Wow, thank you so much for replying to this! I plan on visiting some time soon
