I am an idiot and I just realized I didn’t upload my resume for UPenn. DO you think it would be ok to upload it on the UPenn portal under the additional info section where it lets you upload PDF’s. Would this come across as me being unorganized and annoying or should I do it.
Does Penn request that you do that? If they don’t ask for it, don’t submit one. Likely the items in your resume are already covered on your app.
@suzy100 So on common app you can upload an optional resume which I forgot to do so they do semi-request it at one point. Also I feel like most of my activities were explained well but I neglected to talk about one activity that was pretty important to me and I want them to have the info about it before they make their decision on me.
Just because the common app lets you upload an optional resume doesn’t mean Penn wants that. More is not better for this piece of the app unless there really is additional information that you have no way of showing elsewhere. So you didn’t mention an activity that was important to you anywhere else on the app at all?
In any event, you can contact admissions and see what they advise. Unless it’s something really important (and thus I would have thought would already appear somewhere in your application), I would not add anything at this point. JMO.
Right. They aren’t “semi-requesting,” just giving a link. Most top adcoms know what most activities consist of. It doesn’t make a candidate more impressive to restate everything in an addl document. Or insist on breaking things down in detail in Addl Info.
This is different than an optional question which they designed.
@lookingforward Ok cool thank you for the help. I feel like all of my activities were well known/ well explained except for one and that is what I wanted to expand upon. In the common app I just wrote “global learners and leader selected as part of the inaugural class for an education summit in Zurich” or something along those lines, but I didn’t really get to explain what the activity was and that I worked 3 ears on it, met with Sir Ken Robinson at the summit, as well as presented my new ideas to my school board. Should I just leave it be on the app or expand on it somehow. I fixed the issue for other school I am applying to but UPenn is my top choice so I want it to be the best.
@suzy100 Thank you for the help. It is a pretty important EC I did but did not want to write an essay on it as it would seem cliche. It was a leadership conference I did in Europe and met with some famous figures and presented to my school board but I did just an awful job explaining it on my EC section and wrote my essay about some more personal events and experiences as opposed to my ECs as I thought it would seem cliche. Would you recommend I somehow expand or just leave it as is.
I would leave it as is, but as I said earlier you can always call Penn and see what they suggest. Good luck to you!
@JSa2c24 I wouldn’t add a resume at this point. It could potentially make you seem as if you’re a worrywart; I don’t see much positive upside. I’d only add things in the Penn Applicant Portal if they’re noteworthy (national or international) and were given after you submitted your app.
I realize that you’ve already received many suggestions, so I just wanted to say that I agree with everybody else. If you aren’t accepted, it certainly won’t be because you didn’t upload a resume two weeks after the deadline.
