Would like some insight on Harvard 2+2

So I finished my first year of college at a well respected flagship university and I'm currently majoring in Chemical Engineering and I'm considering the possibility of a minor in statistics. My grades have been really good so far and I feel like I can keep around a 3.7 without too much of a problem. I already have an offer to work at a very large, and well known oil company this fall as a co-op, which I am planning on taking. As far as the GMAT is concerned I plan on studying in the next few months, but I feel I can get in the 700s.

My major question is how important is leadership for the 2+2 program? While I probably should join clubs such as AiCHE or other clubs related to my major, I feel more compelled to focus of internships and co-ops or doing research compared to clubs. Generally speaking, would Harvard prefer an applicant who has more leadership roles or an applicant who is more focused on work and research?

Leadership is very important for Harvard (not only their 2+2 program, but also their general MBA program). That’s what you should focus on.

That being said, leadership does not necessarily mean starting clubs and nonprofit organizations, etc. Leadership can also mean making a real difference in your job/work. Harvard has a rather broad definition of “leadership”.
