So everyone on this forum is waiting for UCB decisions (myself included), but I'm in the process of putting together a backup plan if things don't pan out. I'm transferring from a private ->cc-> UC, and am planning on getting a degree in film/media studies. So far I've been accepted to UCSD, UCSC, and UCSB. I've visited all of the schools, and love all of the areas. Out of those 3 schools, which would you recommend for this field of study? I know UCSD is the most prestigious, UCSB has the newest program, and UCSC has a decent program. Which school would you recommend as far as programs though? Or does anybody have any compelling information about any of the programs?

If UCB works out, then my decision will be made for me haha.

If you’re majoring in Film studies, UCSB is the way to go. Sure, Berkeley is a more prestigious school, but definitely not in the film department. UCSB has an outstanding film program with amazing classes that balance production and critical analysis of film. They recently got a brand new building for the program and a new film theater that screens student films. The southern California location is also very good for its proximity to Hollywood and internships. Like I said, I am aware that Berkeley is a better school, but I still would choose UCSB in a heartbeat when it comes to your major. (As I have, I will be attending UCSB in the fall as a film and media studies major)

I love UCSB’s area, as well as its relative proximity to Ventura, Thousand Oaks (where I’m from), and Los Angeles, but I have heard UCSD has a far better program. What has made you choose UCSB over any of the other school besides location and its new equipment?
