Hello,

I'm trying to fill up the 2014-2015 Fafsa application. I'm 25, considered as independent student, and it says on the application if I would like to enter my parents' income. My parents fill a foreign tax every year since they don't live in the US. However, they do make a little more than the "magic number", which is $50,000 (they made last year's tax return [2012] $54,000, which would be same or slightly higher for 2013 tax return).

On the Fafsa application it says that filling up my parents financial information can help me to qualify for scholarships in the medical field (I'm a pre-med student).

So, what should I do? Just FYI, my tax return is about $2000/year. This would be my 3rd year applying for Fafsa.

Thanks.

If you are an independent student…I can’t see any reason why you would include your parent information.

Sometimes, for independent students who are in professional school (for example, Medical or Pharmacy), parent information is used to determine if the professional student qualifies for a certain type of subsidized loan.

*On the Fafsa application it says that filling up my parents financial information can help me to qualify for scholarships in the medical field (I’m a pre-med student). *

. That doesn’t apply to premed students. That is for med students and other grad level students using FAFSA.

I believe this student is finishing undergrad school (says he is premed). I do NOT believe there is any benefit to adding parent information. None at all.

OP…you filled the FAFSA out last year as an independent. What did you do LAST year?

I haven’t filled up my parents information since I was still an undergraduate. And correct, this is my last year as an undergraduate student.
