You should be good as long as you let your hair grow longer before coming to Rice; I’ve heard that the people there only talk to African American females with afros of adequate size.

Hahaha. Funny one >_>.

…my reaction when reading the original post:

there are some threads where I dont understand what the OP intended to gain when they posted it. or give very few parameters and ask a broad question

Well perhaps this topic really does concern the OP…

its just way too broad. How is the atmosphere at rice is a tangible question. Having never met this person, I have no idea, irrespective of how much is posted

poor baby!

Dude. this thread is like 6 months old.

^Still Antarius, no matter how old it is, I’m going to stick up for the OP. The fact that you could not understand even the basis for her question does, in part, answer her question. Her concerns were legitimate for her. You minimized them. Sounded a little snotty to me. I’m just guessing that you’ve often found yourself in the majority – and therefore have little perspective on what it’s like to be in the minority.

Several people decided to tease her and to minimize her concerns. Not cool imo. That says more about you, and the others who made fun, than it does about her. You’re young. There’s more to know.

Antarius was commenting on the silliness of contributing to a thread that had died six months ago with a two-word irrelevant response. Looking back through the thread, I don’t really see anyone who “teased” the OP for her concerns.

^You know …

Several of you poked fun because you could not even understand where the OP was coming from that led her to ask such a question in the first place. The fact that you don’t understand her question may very well mean only that you have not experienced life the way she has experienced life. You don’t have the perspective she has. That’s all it means.

It doesn’t mean her perspective is wrong or that her question is stupid. It only means that you can’t understand it.

^NY, are you KIDDING me? The majority of the thread is at the least, minimizing, and at the worst, flippant and poking fun. Only a few people took her seriously and answered her question with kindness.

My response was based on everything I read up until “this thread is six months old.” That’s a harmless enough comment. My comments were about all the rest. As I read the thread, I began to feel protective of the OP! And so I spoke up.

Im sorry, please read my first few responses and what followed. The responses were not ‘minimizing’, merely explaining to the OP that there is no way anyone can answer this question properly.

And yes, I did not understand where the OP was coming from. Rice has every single type of person, that there is bound to be a group that is well compatible. As for the thread, it seemed to be like one of the ‘Do you ride on horses in Texas’ type threads. Someone may have a legitimate reason for asking it, I don’t know.

The thread got bumped because someone brought it up for no apparent reason (with a two word comment) and I was hoping we could let it die once again. (Some people here have bumped 2-3 year old threads for no reason)

I really feel sorry for this person. I’ve felt the same way…

I don’t see any reason why there’s something wrong with bumping an old thread. Her concern is a problem that many students face today, so any good advice to her would be greatly appreciated…

Because you bumped it with a ‘poor baby’, not another point of view.

@coconutmonkee, I’ve noticed that resurrected threads like this just give insensitive, myopic people further opportunity to be insensitive and myopic. Because of the search feature on CC, the same old people will see the resurrected threads. And they’ll have the same old responses.
