Would Really Appreciate Transfer Help

I apologize for posting this in the school's thread, but I was not getting any luck in the 'What are my Chances' thread. I'm looking to transfer to Cornell as either an Econ major (CAS) or to the AEM (but I heard this is really competitive). I had a 4.3 GPA in high school (out of 5.0) and a 1930 on my SAT. I'm currently in my sophomore year. I had to transfer out of my first school after the first semester of freshman year due to family issues (will obviously communicate that with admissions). I still made a 3.71. My current GPA is a 3.91 (3.786 GPA spring semester taking 14 credits, 4.0 fall semester taking 19 credits). I am also a member of the honors college. As far as EC's go, I am a member of a fraternity, the finance society, management association, advanced sports statistics club, and have helped in the coordination of various philanthropic events such as an Autism Speaks event that raised over $50k and a party that's proceeds were donated to Breast cancer. I am on Executive Board for the Advanced Sports Statistics Club as the social media coordinator and have also held the finance chair and academic chair positions in my fraternity. This summer, I also worked full time at the world headquarters of a major corporation. Lastly, I have a recommendation from an economics professor who though very highly of me. What do my chances look like if I'm looking to apply to Cornell's CAS or AEM? I have been looking around, but still have no idea where I stand and if I should even bother applying, would really appreciate any help.

I’d say you have a solid shot. AEM is very competitive, but so is CAS. I’m not sure which one you’d have better luck with. CALS really looks for demonstrated “fit,” which you seem to have. It’s going to come down to your essays and rec letters, but definitely apply. Couldn’t hurt. Good luck!

I hear that getting in to CAS as a transfer is like winning the lottery. Cornell has a high transfer acceptance rate because of their “guaranteed transfer” program.

CAS in 2011 had a 7.5% acceptance rate for transfers. CALS (where AEM is) had a 46.8% acceptance rate.
