Would SAT prepare me for ACT?

Hey guys, so I take the SAT March 8th in 2014.. And I'm debating if I should take the ACT December of this year.. I study about 5 hours or so a day during summer for the SAT (currently focusing on Critical Reading) and I was wondering if that would prepare me for the ACT? I took a practice ACT and I got a 22 which is pretty bad.. My rough area was math with a score of 20. If I do decide to take the ACT in December I would of already completed Junior Year math AND reviewed SAT math for quite a while. Should I take the ACT or no? Thanks!

Go for it. You would need to practice on some additional spots for the ACT, though: advanced algebra (advanced relative to SAT math), trigonometry, punctuation rules, and the science section. The essay is only a little different in that, on the ACT, you should argue for both sides of the topic.

If you choose to take subject tests, you can study for both the SAT and SAT Math II test. This will cover you for both the subject test and ACT math. Then, practice the ACT punctuation rules and science section.

It seems odd to me that you are waiting till next spring to test if you are studying every day now. Id say take the Oct SAT then evaluate your situation. You could then test again in winter or spring using SAT or ACT.

Both tests have a lot in common but I don’t think it would be fair to say your SAT prep prepares you for both. Prepping gives you an advantage because you understand the test, how it is given, and where you can exploit its weaknesses. In that regard the tests are different.
